The Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) program develops expertise in understanding how people learn and intentionally designing meaningful, high-impact learning environments in a technology-rich world.
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) program prepares professionals to systematically design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning experiences across educational and organizational contexts. The program emphasizes applied design practice grounded in instructional design, learning sciences, and human performance improvement.
Students engage in authentic design challenges that require analyzing instructional needs, identifying performance gaps, and developing research-informed solutions. Coursework integrates theory with practical application, ensuring that graduates can translate conceptual knowledge into effective learning environments.
Offered entirely online, the LDT program provides a flexible yet rigorous graduate experience built around applied design practice, reflection, and continuous improvement. The program features two emphasis areas designed to meet the diverse needs of students: Educational Technology and Instructional Design. The Educational Technology emphasis is designed for PK-12 and higher educators seeking to move beyond basic classroom technology integration. This emphasis strengthens educators’ ability to design and implement technology-enhanced instruction. Students deepen their understanding of how learning theory informs effective technology integration and enhance their skills in teaching with digital tools, instructional media, and emerging technologies. Instructional Design emphasis is designed for professionals seeking to advance their expertise in learning design. This emphasis strengthens the ability to analyze instructional challenges, design effective learning solutions, and evaluate their impact. Students develop systematic approaches to needs assessment, instructional planning, and performance improvement across corporate, nonprofit, higher education, and training environments.
Studying Learning, Design, and Technology also provides opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative community of learners. Students engage with faculty members, outside experts, mentors, and like-minded colleagues in meaningful academic and professional dialogue. Learning is grounded in evidence-based practices and supported by the thoughtful use of digital tools and instructional resources. Faculty members are experienced scholars and practitioners who remain accessible, flexible, and committed to supporting student success.
