Overview

Grand Valley's Instruction and Curriculum M.Ed in Early Childhood Education equips current educators with advanced knowledge and specialization in early childhood education. It prepares them to lead in pre-K settings, from birth through age eight (3rd grade).

The program is designed for teachers, early interventionists, supervisors, and directors in preschools, child care centers, child development centers, and Head Start programs, as well as researchers and program specialists. Grounded in child development principles, the program enhances understanding of developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive instruction and assessment and supports working with families and children with special needs.

Studying the Early Childhood Education program at GVSU opens up numerous career opportunities, including a ZN early childhood teaching endorsement. The College of Education and Community Innovation’s Office of Certification and Accreditation offers centralized services for advising, field placement, and certification. With flexible online classes available evenings, weekends, and during summer, it’s easier for teachers and administrators to plan their schedules. Our faculty members are leaders in their fields, blending educational philosophy with practical needs. The program is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
