Mark '73 and Kris Kelly Military Veteran Scholarship

Sanford Mark Kelley, a 1973 graduate of Grand Valley State University (GVSU), founded Parallax Technologies Corporation in 1986. Mark went on to a grow the company, headquartered in Grand Blanc, Michigan, until his retirement in 2005. After a successful 13-years career with Xerox Corporation, Kristine Kris Kelley joined Mark at Parallax for eight years before her retirement. Mark served in the US Army with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam as an infantryman. As a veteran with disabilities, Mark is committed to helping other veterans through volunteer service and financial support, particularly with the Folds of Honor Scholarship. He leads the Michigan Chapter of Folds of Honor and is a strong advocate for families of disabled and fallen veterans. Mark continues working in local and international community services as a member of Rotary International. Kris is an accomplished photographer, working in the field professionally and as a hobby. in 2016, Mark and Kris worked with the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation to establish the Mikel Allen Kelley Memorial Fund in honor of Marks brother. The fund ensures children and young adults with cognitive disabilities have access to activities in their community, where they feel welcomed and supported. The Mark 73 and Kris Kelly Therapeutic Recreation Scholarship continues the Kelleys legacy of helping others overcome barriers and engage in the life to the fullest.

M. Frederick Singer and Frederick S. Singer Memorial Veterans Scholarship

Established by the Singer family in memory of their father M. Frederick Singer, a proud WWII Navy veteran, and son/brother Frederick S. Singer, a proud Marine and Vietnam veteran. Fred Sr. joined the Navy in 1944 at just 17 years of age, and followed his seven older brothers into war. Fred spent most of his years in service in the Pacific and was assigned as an SST pilot. Shortly after the end of the war, Fred returned home, married, and raised five children. He worked in the new industry of injection molding for his entire career at the tender age of 83, he received his high school diploma from Pinckney High School through the Operation Recognition program. This program was designed specifically for veterans who entered the armed services prior to high school graduation. Fred was incredibly proud of this accomplishment and treasured his new class ring for the rest of his life. Fred Jr. joined the Marines in 1969 after his first semester at Michigan State University. After two tours of duty in Vietnam and four years in the Marines, he returned to Michigan and began his career in telecommunications at Michigan Bell where he served 34 years before retiring. Fred Jr. was a devoted Civil War historian, an avid outdoors-man, and loved to ride his Harleys. He spent many hours volunteering at the Michigan Home for Veterans and held a special place in his heart for all those who have served our country proudly in the armed services.

Available to only Michigan residents who are high school seniors and are a son, daughter, grandchild or great-grandchild of a war-time veteran planning to or are attending any Michigan accredited college or university or trade school. Selection is based on a student’s G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher, financial need, parent’s or grandparent’s honorable active war-time military service, goals, and intentions.  Scholarships are $1,000 and non-renewable.

William D. & Jewell Brewer Scholarship

The William D. & Jewel Brewer Scholarship is available to only Michigan residents who are high school seniors or college students – without a bachelor's degree, who are a son, daughter,  grandchild or great-grandchild of a war-time veteran planning to or are attending any nationally accredited college or university or trade school. Selection is based on a student’s G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher, financial need, parent’s or grandparent’s honorable active war-time military service, goals, and intentions.  Scholarships are $500 and non-renewable.

West Michigan Veterans Coalition Armed Forces Dependent Scholarship

The West Michigan Veterans Coalition Armed Forces Dependent Scholarship is available to Spouses and Dependent Children up to age 26 of Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, Retired and honorable discharged members of the United States Military who are currently attending or have been accepted into either a College, University or Trade School. The scholarship may be used to support school expenses such as books, tuition, transportation, housing, etc.

The Foundation awards scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 to cover the cost of attending a four-year accredited college or university. Scholarships are available to both active U.S. military service members (including National Guard and Reserve) or veteran members separated from active military service who have been honorably discharged, and are entering or re-entering a post-secondary undergraduate program in a field of geoscience full time or part time. Eligibility also includes military dependents (spouses and children) for the following categories: deceased, disabled, active and veteran.
