The SVA National Conference
Laker Vets attends NatCon each year in January. NatCon is an event where military-affiliated students come from around the country to hear inspiring speakers, meet higher education professionals, and leading employers.
The SVA National Conference (NatCon) is the largest national gathering of student veterans, bringing together student leaders and campus professionals from across the country. NatCon offers leadership development, professional growth, and networking opportunities, and allows students to represent GVSU while bringing back ideas and connections that strengthen our campus veteran community.
Celebrating Your Achievements
The President hosts an annual Veterans Day Luncheon, where servicemembers past and present are welcome.
Military-affiliated students are honored with the MVRC's Waddle of Honor Graduation Ceremony.
Following the Waddle of Honor Graduation Ceremony, all students and family members chuck a duck into Zumberge Pond.
Laker Vets take multiple opportunities to recognize the military-affiliated students, faculty, and staff at GVSU. Hug a GI Day is one of the ways we do so!
A Vibrant Community
There are a lot of events throughout the year. From tubing to fundraising, there are plenty of opportunities to meet and build connections with other military-affiliated students in Laker Vets!
NatCon Merit-Based Policy
Starting this year, the Military & Veterans Resource Center will use a merit-based point system to select students to attend the Student Veterans of America (SVA) National Conference. This process recognizes students who are actively involved with Laker Vets, participate in MVRC events, and contribute to the military-connected community at GVSU. Points are earned through verified engagement, leadership, and involvement, and students must be in good academic and conduct standing to be eligible.
