Established in 1972, COST is a collaboration of 15 colleges and universities in the United States that provides opportunities for its students to have quality student teaching experiences in overseas settings. The University of Deusto first opened its doors in 1886. Its birth was the result of the combined concerns and cultural interests of the Basque Country, which wished to have a university of its own, and of the Jesuit Fathers, who wanted to move their school of higher studies from La Guardia (Pontevedra) to a more central location.

Host to about 11,000 students, its main campus is located in Bilbao, northern Spain, right across the Guggenheim Museum, surrounded by green mountains and close to beautiful beaches. The International Spanish Center-CIDE offers study programs in Spanish Language and Culture, and in Business and Spanish.
