Alyssa Flores, Spain

My time in Granada, Spain has been a wonderful and life-changing experience. Initially, it was a little difficult adjusting because the time schedule is more relaxed, eating times are later and the social life is different. It was also intimidating to speak Spanish in public places at first, especially because the Andalusian accent can be hard to pick up on. However, I adjusted pretty quickly & have come to love the way of living in this beautiful, historical city. I have been able to advance my Spanish-speaking skills and learn local vocabulary and expressions. I traveled to 5 different countries, including Spain, during my visit here. I tried different foods I otherwise would have never tried. I made new friends & also volunteered with a local organization. I lived in a homestay which was the best decision I could make because I got to practice speaking Spanish every day, try authentic Spanish dishes & learn about the culture in a more intimate way. I am so glad that I decided to push myself outside of my comfort zone because I have created unforgettable experiences and have expanded my perspective about the world. I would do study abroad again if I could!
