Gretchen Pyscher, Ireland

For my Therapeutic Recreation Fieldwork I had the honor to work at Barretstown Camp in Ballymore Eustace, Ireland. This camp is for kids with serious illness and it gives them a break to just be kids again. This was such a fulfilling job-so fulfilling I decided I had to go back again this summer! I wasn't just at camp though as we had breaks in between each camp session called intercessions. On these breaks we went all over! I got to go to London, visit my family in Wales, and see a lot of Ireland! The best part was my coworkers were mostly Irish so they took the foreigners under their wing and we got to see Ireland as they see it. I was so lucky to stay in so many peoples homes and really get a taste for what Ireland and the people are all about. And let me tell you I liked the taste! I hope to continue exploring Ireland because it really made me appreciate how wonderful and wide our world really is and how much there is left to learn. I wouldn't trade my summer abroad for anything in the world and I am thrilled to get back out there and soak it all in again.
