General Wang Geon named “Korea” in AD 918. The name comes from the old language Goryeo, meaning “high and clear.” Other interpretations of the name Korea are “Land of High Mountains and Sparkling Streams” and “Land of the Morning Calm.

South Korean men spend close to US $900 million a year on makeup products, making up over a quarter of the world’s men’s cosmetics. Around 20% of the male Korean uses cosmetics regularly. 

South Korea has the world’s fastest wireless speeds on the planet, with an average download speed 33.5 megabits per second. One hundred percent of South Koreans have broadband access.

South Korea’s national dish is kimchi,which is a combination of vegetables and spices that have been fermented underground for months. It is served with almost everything. Kimchi recipes date back to about AD 1250 and there are about 170 varieties of the dish.

South Korea has the second lowest obesity rate in the world. This can be attributed to the Korean diet staples, including rice, seaweed, kimchi and other root vegetables
