Academic Advice

  • The earliest you can go abroad is the summer of your first year.
  • Students may fulfill General Education Foundation and Issues requirements abroad
  • Students taking at least 3 credits abroad will fulfill their Global Perspectives requirement
  • Students should be working with their faculty mentor to plan and make appropriate course selections for study abroad.
  • Be sure to explore both GVSU and Provider options by browsing the Program Suggestions below. Students are not limited to GVSU study abroad programs.
  • There are several opportunities to intern and or volunteer while abroad.
  • Many study abroad programs offer a wide selection of courses, including courses in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Broadcasting, and Photography.
  • Students looking to complete their required internship course have the potential to achieve this in Advertising/PR, Communication Studies, Health Communications, Photography, Broadcasting, Theater, and/or Journalism.

  • Students may NOT take any Senior Thesis Course (498 numbers for CAP, CBR, CFV, CJR, HCOM, COM, CPH and CTH) abroad. 
  • Courses will be reviewed on a case by case basis through the course equivalency process.
