Emily Cesario

Emily Cesario is a communications major, a devoted member of Book Club, and the president of Girls United Against Real Dangers (GUARD). GUARD is a self-defense organization that teaches female-identifying students jiu-jitsu self-defense tactics so they can protect themselves against real-world dangers.

GUARD helped develop Emily’s interest in women’s safety and even sparked her interest in a new career path: “I have never really considered going into working at a nonprofit, but because of GUARD, I have found a potential interest in working with a nonprofit that helps survivors.” Additionally, she says, “Being the president of GUARD has helped me find leadership skills within myself that I would not have been able to develop as thoroughly without my position.”
