GVSU Beach Clean Up Collects 7,530 Pieces of Plastic

On Saturday, September 21, enthused Lakers and members of the Alliance for the Great Lakes gathered at Grand Haven State Park to participate in the annual Beach Clean Up. Around 150 students registered, but even more showed up. In total, 59 pounds of trash was collected. This included 7,530 pieces of plastic and 841 cigarette butts.

The Community Service Learning Center hosts the annual Beach Clean Up in an effort to preserve our beautiful Lake Michigan beaches. After the clean up, the volunteers were provided lunch and numerous recreational opportunities: a Coast Guard tour, a hike through the Rosy Mound Natural Area, and music courtesy of DJ Angus Ride.
