Washington Monthly included Grand Valley in its list of Best Colleges for Student Voting in 2021. Additionally, GVSU received the Best Action Plan Award from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

In December of 2021, Grand Valley held commencement ceremonies for students graduating in Fall 2021, and the Women's Soccer team won the national championship. The university also approved two student organizations for the upcoming semester.
