"Be the Change" Podcast Encourages Important Civic Discussions at GV
April 29, 2020
Journalism student Jane Johnston and her podcast “Be the Change” have
been gaining traction in the Grand Valley community. Produced in
conjunction with the Community
Service Learning Center, the podcast has featured dozens of
guests, including GVSU professors and students, and even the Michigan
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and former National Public Radio
anchor Renee Montagne. Johnston uses the podcast to underscore the
importance of civic engagement.
The goal of “Be the Change” is to explore how members of the
Grand Valley and surrounding communities use their voice to undertake
democratic and community engagement. Jane has interviewed guests about
climate change, immigration, and political activity on campus to
create educational podcast episodes. If you want to tune in to Jane’s
podcast or submit an idea for a future episode, visit the webpage for
“Be the Change”.
