Stephanie Torres

Stephanie Torres is a recent Grand Valley graduate with a major in public, nonprofit, and health administration with an emphasis in public personnel management and a minor in philosophy. She served as a member of the E-Board for Alternative Breaks, and in her final year was the service chair for Circle K.

During her first year at Grand Valley, Stephanie reached out to some of the RAs in her dorm about how she could become active with Alternative Breaks. She decided to join because of her desire to get more involved in community service and to meet more people. Through Alternative Breaks she was able to help refugees, homeless communities, and wildlife refuges, among other causes.

Stephanie’s involvement in both organizations helped her choose her major, as well as improved her college experience. She says, “These organizations help me to broaden my understanding of civic engagement and ways to get involved in the community.” She also says that her involvement has helped her learn more about the Grand Rapids/Allendale community and increased her self-confidence.
