10th Annual Clean-Up & Cookout Hosted by Sigma Lambda Beta Int. Fraternity, Inc.

Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. hosted their 10th annual clean-up and cookout event on Nov. 9, 2019. They collaborated with the Hispanic Center of West Michigan and GVSU’s Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) to clean up Grandville neighborhoods. The purpose of the event was to help the elderly and individuals with disabilities who are physically unable to clean up their yards.

Volunteers raked leaves, picked up trash, and painted over graffiti in alleyways, streets, and backyards. The organization drew in support from participants and fellow brothers from universities such as Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, and Ferris State University as well as GVSU Latina sororities. When asked about the experience, Larry De Leon, Financial and Membership Officer, states, “We were able to give back to the community and encourage students to become leaders and take an active part in their community.”
