GVSU Relay for Life Raises $103,000 for Cancer Research

GVSU’s Relay for Life event took place on April 5, 2019, in the GVSU Fieldhouse and raised $103,000 for cancer research. There were over 1,000 student participants who worked hard to fundraise throughout their communities prior to the event. Many participated in memory of a loved one who had passed away from cancer or in support of a loved one still fighting.

At the event, there was an opportunity for cancer survivors to take a celebratory lap as the crowd cheered them on. There was then a chance for all caretakers to be recognized and take a lap. The relay then began as teammates took turns walking the track to symbolize the ongoing battle against cancer. The event was an incredibly caring and loving environment that aimed to support those affected by cancer and to raise money towards research so that cancer will claim fewer and fewer lives in the future.
