Description of event
Our mission to prevent kidney disease and improve the quality of life for those living with it. We also focus on the root causes of kidney disease which are obesity, diabetes and hypertension to help people avoid this disease altogether. National Kidney Foundation of Michigan's 2018 Grand Rapids Kidney Walk raises awareness and support to ensure the health and wellness of our people in West Michigan. Kidney disease is a major public health issue. · 1 in 3 American adults is at risk for kidney disease. · 1 in 9 American adults has kidney disease and most don't know it. · High blood pressure and diabetes are the two leading causes of kidney disease. · Of 118,000 Americans on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant, more than 96,000 need a kidney. Fewer than 17,000 people receive one each year. We have a small staff and need caring individuals to help us move and set up on the days leading up to the event, and several days following the event. Your generous donation of time will help to improve the lives of so many people in West Michigan and we are very appreciative! By volunteering, you are truly making a difference and directly influencing and positively impacting the lives of those at risk for kidney disease, those living with chronic kidney disease, and those who care for and about them.
