Description of event
Invasive Species Project at beautiful Pickerel Lake Nature Preserve! Kent Conservation District and Kent County Parks Department are working together to recruit volunteers to help control the Oriental Bittersweet vine that is threatening the trees and wildlife habitat! Experience is not necessary - training to cut the vines is included and all supplies and tools will be provided. Fred Meijer Nature Preserve, Pickerel Lake Park offers a scenic mix of natural areas to explore along a branching network of trails. The lake itself covers nearly 80 acres and is a great setting for fishing or wildlife observation. One of the best-known features of the park is the 900 ft boardwalk crossing a portion of the lake. The shoreline of Pickerel Lake is undeveloped, being surrounded only by parkland and Camp Rogers to the north. Beyond the lake shore, trails meander through unique wetlands, sandy woods, and rolling forest hills and valleys. In the winter, the trails are open for cross country skiing. Portable restroom is available at the parking lot.
