Dr. Brad Ambrose: "Where cognitive science meets space science: Learning how we learn about the cosmos"

For over thirty years experts in physics education research (PER) have been investigating the ways in which students organize and assimilate new knowledge as they learn physical concepts and problem solving skills.  Informed by cognitive science, PER explores ways to help students make sense of scientific concepts that may initially seem counter-intuitive.  This interactive presentation will provide insights about how learners construct knowledge, with specific examples in celestial physics and astronomy.  Warning:  You may come away having learned some physics—and something new about how your own mind works!
