Dr. Jeanette Epps will share her journey to space and her experiences living and working aboard the International Space Station. Her presentation emphasizes STEAM education, curiosity-driven learning, mentorship, and the importance of perseverance in pursuing ambitious goals.
Dr. Jeanette Epps is a former NASA astronaut and aerospace engineer who served as a mission specialist on SpaceX Crew-8, spending more than 233 days aboard the International Space Station. Selected as a NASA astronaut in 2009, she completed extensive training in robotics, spacewalk operations, emergency preparedness, and international mission coordination, and also served as a Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM) supporting spacewalks from NASA’s mission control. Before her career at NASA, Dr. Epps worked as an intelligence officer at the CIA, where she rose to branch chief and deployed to Iraq. Earlier in her career, she held a technical position at Ford Motor Company, where she co-authored a patent. She holds a PhD and MS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland and a BS in Physics from LeMoyne College.
