"I would not be in my role as Health and Wellness Manager today if it were not for my employment and experiences with GVSU Campus Recreation. My first on campus job as a student was as an event staff position. One day, the Assistant Director at the time asked "Have you ever thought about teaching group fitness"? I became certified and have enjoyed teaching and helping others on their wellness journey ever since. In addition to that, if it were not for the Outdoor Adventure Center gear rental program, I would have never started back country camping and hiking. I was afforded the opportunity to rent gear at a very reasonable price and learned what is needed to make the trip safe and enjoyable. After trying it first, I could then make the decision to invest in my own equipment. My husband and I enjoyed Isle Royale and Glacier National Parks this past summer and have our eyes set on Iceland or South America next year!"
