What is your success story? Know that what you share may help motivate others.
I was having some upper back pain when working at the design wall in some art classes I take. I wanted to work on strength in that area in particular. I also had two joint replacements in the last 4 years and knew I could benefit from more strength in my legs too. A colleague mentioned that she was working with a GV personal trainer. I decided to invest in myself and signed up in January 2020. Here it is, October, and I haven't missed a workout. My trainer (Connor Montgomery) has motivated me and looked out for my limitations with great positivity, knowledge and resourcefulness. When we left campus in March, RecWell pivoted very well to online tracking and they allowed me to be one of the beta testers of the new system. I use a small array of bands and weights at home and at the office and have an occasional Zoom meeting and messages with Connor to stay on track. I feel stronger and know I'll be safer in icy conditions this winter.

Why do you participate in Recreation & Wellness programs, services, or events?
I have primarily participated through personal training, but I did come in 49th (ish) in an online Laker exercise challenge (GVLakerStrong Daily Activity Challenge) during the summer.

How has your involvement in Recreation & Wellness impacted your experience at GVSU?
Rec and Wellness really makes half of my fitness program practical. While my insistent dog helps to police my daily walks, having Rec and Wellness resources and some flexibility from GVSU really keeps my strength training on track.
