"In my teens & twenties, I was active but definitely wasn't the poster child for good habits. Now that I'm in my 30's, I'm learning that doing things like skipping a warm-up, not stretching, or doing too much too soon have more severe consequences than they used to. Bad habits die hard, but the variety of resources & services available allow me to stay active without causing further harm while I rehabilitate. Your body and mind are the greatest, most valuable tools you'll ever own. Staying active is like providing the regular maintenance that keeps them operating optimally & adds years to their life.

Overseeing the Climbing Center has made my time at GVSU extremely rewarding & fulfilling. Not just in witnessing the sense of accomplishment someone gets by making it the top of the wall for the first time. It's a very social space. Amazing personal connections get made there. Some people find a friend group that gives them a desired sense of belonging at GVSU. Some have even met their spouse there! It's also great watching the progression people who stick with it go through. From not knowing anything to having the knowledge & experience to accomplish 1,000'+ climbs outside & giving pointers to the new gym climbers when they look as awkward as they once did."
