"I was raised with an affection and enthusiasm for the outdoors, but winters in West Michigan are no joke! It can be challenging to get outside and get moving during that time. Not being able to do that makes it feel like something is missing and you can easily start feeling down. Additionally, when spring and summer come back around you and you have spent the winter avoiding activities you enjoy, you have lost your endurance to get back out there and do them again! By keeping on the move and playing an active role in my health, I can beat the winter blues and get right back to my favorite seasonal activities when the time comes.

I live and work on the Pew Campus, so I do not utilize the Recreation Center in Allendale as much as some. I have, however, found that challenges like TREK100 or the 5Ks give me a goal to work towards from the spaces I am already in.

I love the variety of services that Campus Recreation offers, including several wellness campaigns throughout the year. I can work those campaigns into the programming my staff and I offer to our students, which means we get to learn together and keep each other motivated to show up at GVSU as the healthiest versions of ourselves."
