Occupational Safety & Health Management Donates Medical Supplies

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Management department stepped up to assist with the current shortage of protective gear for medical workers by donating their stock of laboratory supplies. Professors Derek McCormick and Dave Huizen gathered fifty N-95 equivalent respirators and fifty face masks, all of which were delivered to Spectrum Health Hospitals in Grand Rapids, Michigan. “Spectrum Health has been a significant partner of ours for several years, providing tours and other learning opportunities for our students. We are happy to be able to give back during this unprecedented time,” said Huizen.

The coronavirus has provided an unfortunate but unique learning opportunity for OSH students and professionals alike as industries work to protect their employees while providing care for those stricken by the virus. The situation has highlighted the critical role that safety and health professionals play in the workforce.
