What Does it Mean to be Part of a Diverse Community?
As you interact with people at Grand Valley State University, each of us has a tremendous opportunity to learn from those who are similar, and those who are different from you- to gain an understanding of our differences and to celebrate all that makes us valued members of the community.
This is not about agreeing with everyone. Rather, this is about seeing people through the lens of their lived experience, learning views that are different from your own.
It is important, as you progress through your education, that you challenge some of your beliefs, not necessarily with the intention of changing them, but to gather skills about how to be involved in conversations with others who think, and feel differently than you in ways that are still respectful of other’s beliefs, identities, and values.
