Summer Institute 2026
June 15-26, 2026 in Grand Rapids, MI
The Summer Institute is a fellowship for teachers who want to improve their writing instruction by rekindling their own creative and critical voices. For two weeks you will read, write, and reflect on your teaching practice with respectful, curious, and fun-loving colleagues. You will become a teacher-scholar with power over your practice.
Participants who successfully complete the fellowship will receive a full three-credits for ENG 632, supported by grant-funding. The Summer Institute is co-led by elementary, secondary, and college educators.
WHAT OUR FELLOWS ARE SAYING
"The most enriching program I've ever completed as a teacher and
as a writer."
- Colleen Alles (2013)
"Those few weeks changed how I have approached teaching ever
since and, to this day, I remain in close contact with my Summer
Institute fellows."
- Kim Bolt (2015)
"Honestly, when I left that summer, I felt lighter — like the
burden of the job was now shared, not mine alone. Without question,
Summer Institute was the best professional development I've ever
had."
- David Theune (2013)
