What We Do
Work with one of our peer tutors for an in-depth review of course materials, a study session, a small group content review, or practice; you set the agenda for the session. Schedule once, as needed, or on a recurring weekly basis - whatever works best for you! We offer:

What to Expect in a Tutoring Appointment
Current GVSU students can schedule a 50-minute appointment with one of our peer tutors for a variety of 100, 200, and select 300-level courses! You can schedule ahead, or drop by for a Just in Time Appointment when available.

Reading Support
The Reading Center offers drop-in and appointment sessions for students to build reading comprehension skills, be more effective readers, and "hack" reading in college. Reading support is available for all students and all courses, and is a great resource for international and ESL students!
Peer tutors in The Reading Center have trained on comprehensive reading strategies as well as tutoring best practices. Students will work with a tutor individually for 50 minutes to develop strategies for reading and learning successfully in their college courses.

Drop-in Centers
GVSU offers drop-in tutoring in subject specific locations across the Valley and City campuses to allow students to ask questions and receive homework help when they need it -- no appointment necessary! Drop-in centers are staffed by peer tutors and faculty members and are independently managed by faculty coordinators and directors within the subject area.
Supplemental Instruction
Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) is a form of peer-led supplemental instruction that is available in some high-risk courses at GVSU. Supplemental instruction is a form of peer-tutoring that focuses on collaboration, group learning, and interaction to help students succeed in historically difficult courses. In their SLA sessions, students are provided with course-specific learning and study strategies like note-taking, test-taking, reading skills, and more while also engaging in structured review and study time with a group of their peers.
