GVSU Accounts

A wide variety of technology services and computing resources will support your work at Grand Valley State University.  Before you can take advantage of those services, you must have a G-number and a GVSU network account and password.

Getting Started


  • New and incoming students will receive their G-number and Network/Email account information (username and password) in their student portal.
  • New faculty and staff will receive their G-number and Network/Email account information from their supervisor or department coordinator.
  • If you do not know your G-number, please contact the Registrar's office at (616) 331-3327.
  • If you do not know your Network/Email account information (username and/or password), please contact the GVSU IT Service Desk at (616) 331-2101.
  • Non-GVSU affiliates can connect to the GV-Visitor WiFi network without a Grand Valley account. Instructions can be found on the Getting Connected Guests webpage.
  • Non-GVSU affiliates that require a Guest Network/Email account must be sponsored by a GVSU faculty/staff member. Please send the details of your request to [email protected]. All Guest account requests are subject to IT administration approval.

GVSU Accounts faculty

Your GVSU Network account will be used to login to the following:

  • Your GVSU issued computer
  • GVSU Faculty/Staff Wireless
  • Labs & Classrooms (add @Office at the end of your username when logging into these computers)
  • Outlook (the following username will work when receiving email [email protected], [email protected], [email protected])
  • Gmail
  • Blackboard
  • myBanner
  • Banner Admin

Note:  If you changed your name and you would like your username to change, visit www.gvsu.edu/myname for further instructions.

  • To reset your myBanner or Network password go to www.gvsu.edu/passwordreset
  • myBanner access is automatically granted based on your role at GVSU as a student, faculty, advisor or employee
  • To have your Banner Admin password reset you will need to call the Service Desk at 616-331-2101.
  • Use your network credentials to access Banner Admin and change your password.
  • Request access to Banner Admin for Business & Finance
  • Request access to Banner Admin for Student Records by contacting the Registrar's Office at [email protected] 
  • OnBase is the electronic Accounts Payable and document management system we use for submitting check requests, transfer requests, approving and processing invoices and for the electronic storage of documents associated with all of these functions.  OnBase 16, available to the campus community on May 7, 2017, is a web-based program, accessible to GVSU faculty and staff who are responsible for the oversight and processing of payments to vendors for goods and services. 
  • To have your Onbase Account password reset call the Service Desk at 616-331-2101.
  • To request Onbase access, contact your department coordinator who will work with the appropriate office for access

Many systems require a secure connection to the GVSU network via a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Please note, VPN is not required for accessing library resources. If you have difficulty connecting to library resources please contact the library for assistance at 616-331-3500 or by submitting the library's support form.

  • To reset or unlock your Banner Workflow, call the Service Desk at 616-331-2101.
  • To request Banner Workflow access, contact your department coordinator who will work with the appropriate office for access.

We have expanded self-service options for students, faculty and staff to be able to reset your GVSU network account password.  Along with this enhancement, you will also be able to use your GVSU Network credentials when logging into Banner Self-Service (SSB) or Internet Native Banner (INB). This feature will be available for Banner SSB on January 15, 2018.  The Banner INB login using your network credentials will be released shortly thereafter, so look for the change!

To reset your network password, you will first need to provide a personal email and/or a primary mobile number in Banner SSB to receive a unique, secure code that will authorize you to make the change. 

  • Login to myBanner and on the Personal Information tab, under Phone Number, add a Primary Mobile Number and/or under Email, add a Personal email.

Once you’ve successfully saved a personal email and/or primary mobile number in myBanner, you’ll be able to use the Password Reset tool.

Your GVSU Network account will be used to login to the following:

  • Gmail
  • Computer Labs
  • Wireless
  • Laker Jobs
  • My Student Data
  • myBanner

  • My Student Data provides a way for students to access their private(N:) drive from their personal computer

  • All undergraduate and graduate students who have registered for classes should have a Handshake profile linked to their student email. Log in to Handshake using your GVSU network credentials.
