In this session, he will explore innovation, engagement, and the future of teaching with technology. In his session, AI Anxiety to AI Agency, Dr. Mazid will help faculty, staff, and students build confidence in using AI across teaching, learning, and everyday work.

More About Dr. Imran Mazid
Dr. Imran Mazid is an Associate Professor in the School of Communications at Grand Valley State University. His research focuses on the strategic use of social media in public relations, particularly how storytelling and social presence can enhance audience engagement. Dr. Mazid employs a range of research methods, including quantitative analysis, computational approaches, biometrics, and natural language processing, to uncover strategic insights. He received several awards for his scholarly research.
A central theme of Dr. Mazid's work is the intersection of big data and digital media. Through empirical analysis of large datasets, he investigates how strategic message design influences audience engagement. His research provides actionable insights that professionals can use to craft persuasive content for public relations campaigns. Dr. Mazid's work has been published in prestigious journals such as the Public Relations Review, Public Relations Journal, International Journal of Communication, International Journal of Strategic Communication, Journal of Health Communication, South Asian Popular Culture, and Action in Teacher Education. He has also presented numerous research papers at national conferences.
In the classroom, Dr. Mazid is dedicated to offering innovative and interactive learning experiences. His teaching philosophy is rooted in active listening and a deep commitment to student care. He integrates digital tools to equip students with the skills needed for the strategic use of social media, artificial intelligence, storytelling, and data-driven content development. Through practical, hands-on activities, Dr. Mazid challenges his students to address real-world communication issues, fostering their ability to develop creative and effective solutions.
Outside of his academic work, Dr. Mazid is happily married to Dr. Zulfia Zaher, an Associate Professor at Central Michigan University. They are the proud parents of two young children, Habib and Bella. Habib, a joyful child, enjoys playing with his toys, counting, and organizing his surroundings, while Bella, a sweet toddler, loves playing with her brother and is known for her kind and caring nature.
Dr. Mazid is also the year’s recipient of the Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center 2026 Teaching with Technology Award.
