The College of Education and Community Innovation, in collaboration with the Education Alumni Network, hosted a memorable event May 7 at the Eberhard Center to commemorate 60 years of education programs at Grand Valley.

Approximately 130 guests, including alumni, recent graduates, retired faculty and GVSU mentor teachers, gathered to celebrate this milestone. The evening highlighted the program's legacy while looking ahead to its future by showcasing scholarship accomplishments, program achievements and featuring a video of interviews with faculty and others who have shaped the program. Guests enjoyed engaging with an artifact display and viewing a slideshow of the program's timeline.

In her remarks, CECI Dean Sherril Soman acknowledged GVSU’s efforts to lead teachers through challenging times and its commitment to providing quality training for educators across the state. Provost Jennifer Drake led a toast to honor the program's enduring impact and bright future.

Emily Miller, chair of the Education Alumni Network and active teacher, shared stories of her experience in the classroom and with GVSU throughout the years. Daisy Fredericks, associate professor and director of teacher education, reflected on past achievements and aspirations for education programs for years to come.

Participants took advantage of photo opportunities, and the free giveaways added a special touch to the evening.

Throughout the evening, spontaneous reunions of alumni with one another and casual networking added to the event's festivities.
