Director's Welcome

The School of Engineering offers an industry-engaged engineering curriculum that integrates a strong fundamental foundation and ‘real world’ state-of-the-art applications. Our students have opportunities such as a three-semester co-op program where they gain a year of full-time paid experience in industry. Additional opportunities include project-based courses beginning in the students' freshman year, fundamental research, and interdisciplinary, industry-sponsored capstone projects. Located in an over 110,000 square feet facility located in downtown Grand Rapids, the School of Engineering offers a student-focused education with classes that are taught by experienced and dedicated faculty.

The School of Engineering was founded to meet the increasing demand for engineering talent in West Michigan, and has grown to become a nationally recognized model for ‘real world engineering education’ while being ranked one of the top engineering programs in the Midwest. We offer ABET-accredited undergraduate degree programs in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Interdisciplinary Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Product Design & Manufacturing Engineering.

We also offer Master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Mechanical Engineering, and Product Design & Manufacturing Engineering. Our graduate programs are flexible and designed to deepen student's expertise -- offering opportunities for both the working professional and the student seeking a more traditional, full-time research-based experience.

Our students are heavily involved outside of the classroom and workplace as well, including study/work abroad, entrepreneurship initiatives, community-based projects, student clubs and organizations, and research.

If you are a prospective undergraduate or graduate student, future industrial partner, or a community member and are interested to learning more about the School of Engineering, I welcome the opportunity to share with you more about us and how you can take part in our exciting future!

Best regards,

Wael Mokhtar, Ph.D.
