How We Came to Be
In 2024, thanks to the leadership of the GVSU Student Senate, a bill to “Create a Student Legal Services Department on Grand Valley State University’s Allendale Campus” (W-24-02) was passed. As a result, during 2024-25, a task force led by Student Senate, brought together stakeholders from across campus to explore and develop a plan to turn this piece of legislation into reality. In 2025-26, the Student Legal Services initiative was named a priority by VPSA Jenny Hall-Jones, who designated it as a Presidential Fellows project. In early 2026, Avanti Law was named as the Student Legal Services partner that will provide legal advice to students. Beginning in spring 2026, Student Legal Services is open for business to support Grand Valley students!
