Omni Hotels Acknowledges Breach

(July 11, 2016)

Omni Hotels has acknowledged that point-of-sale systems at some of its properties were infected with malware designed to steal payment card information. Omni became aware of the breach on May 30, 2016; the malware was on the system between December 23, 2015 and June 14, 2016.

Editor's Note

[Jake Williams]
The fact that the breach began on December 23 is probably not a coincidence. I have worked on multiple breaches where attackers took advantage of seasonally themed phishing emails along with seasonal lack of staffing to gain initial access and/or exfiltrate data. Pay extra attention to security during holiday times.
