Michigan Scam Alert
August 29, 2016
The Michigan State Police are warning that fraudsters have figured out how to make calls that appear to originate from the Flint Post of the Michigan State Police. The calls are part of an “IRS scam”, where the caller claims to be an IRS employee seeking immediate payment for back taxes. Somehow, the scammers are able to fake the caller ID so the potential victim believes the call is coming from the police. A police statement says that, “the Michigan State Police would never call your home asking for money for any reason.”
