Online Tracking
August 08, 2016
- A new Princeton University study of the top 1 million websites is the most comprehensive study to date of online tracking. The not-so-surprising result: you’re being tracked, a LOT. Over 81k third-party trackers are used on at least two of those 1 million websites. All of the top 5 trackers and 12 of the top 20 are owned by Google. One bit of good news is that device fingerprinting, which tracks subtle differences in hardware and software to identify site visitors, is used more often for fraud detection rather than to track behavior.
