Yahoo 2014 breach
September 26, 2016
Yahoo has announced “at least” half a billion user accounts were compromised in a 2014 breach. The stolen information contained names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, “hashed” passwords (not the password itself), and security questions/answers. Yahoo says that no financial data was stolen. What should you do?
- If you have a Yahoo account, change your password and security questions by clicking here. For additional security, consider using Yahoo’s Account Key (which eliminates a password completely) or use Yahoo’s two-step verification.
- Review non-Yahoo accounts. Once hackers have access to a username/password from one system, they routinely try the same combination against other systems. Never use the same username/password on multiple systems!
