GV Charter Schools Alumni Scholarship + U Prep Alumni Scholarship
In 2022, the Division of K-12 Education Innovation and Scholar Success (DEISS) established the GV Charter School Alumni Scholarship to support undergraduate students from charter public high schools authorized by GVSU. Additionally, distinct U Prep Alumni Scholarships were created for graduates from one of the GVSU's three Urban High School Academies in Detroit that annually matches the GV Charter School Alumni Scholarship. Through these scholarship programs, students receive academic support and financial assistant to advance in their studies and career preparation.

Requirements
- Graduate of a GVSU-authorized charter public high school
- Enrolled at GVSU as an undergraduate student
- Full time enrollment at GVSU, 12+ credit hours
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
Award amount
- $1,000 per year for up to 8 semesters
- Maximum possible award: $4,000
U Prep Alumni Scholarship
Requirements
- Graduate of University Preparatory Academy High School, University Prep Science and Math High School, or UPrep Art & Design High School
- Enrolled at GVSU as an undergraduate student
- Enrolled for 12+ credit hours
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
Award amount
- $1,000 per year for up to 8 semesters
- Maximum possible award: $4,000
- Combined with the GV Charter School Alumni Scholarship: up to $8,000
How It Works
- Apply and enroll at GVSU.
- GVSU reviews your eligibility based on your high school and enrollment status.
- If you qualify, the award is automatically added to your financial aid package.
- Continue meeting renewal requirements to keep the award.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Your application and enrollment to GVSU serves as your application. The scholarships that you are eligible for will automatically renew as long as you continue to meet the qualification requirements.
No. The scholarship and award only apply to undergraduate students.
Yes. Students who transfer to GVSU can receive a prorated scholarship based on their remaining undergraduate studies. For example, a transfer student who completed two years of undergraduate studies at a community college would be eligible to receive the GVSU Charter Alumni Scholarship for two years. Depending on where that student attended high school, they may also be eligible to receive the UPrep Alumni Scholarship for those two years too.
No. The scholarship is only for graduates of GVSU charter high schools.
Based on Michigan law regarding charter public schools, the University Prep Schools' charter contract allows additional flexibility regarding student support opportunities, which includes scholarship development.
Scholarship eligibility is independent of GVSU's regulatory oversight once the scholarship begins. This means that only students from current and future GVSU-authorized charter high schools are eligible. Once a school is no longer authorized by GVSU, future alumni are no longer eligible but existing scholarship awards will be honored.
Grand Valley's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy ensures students remain in good academic standing and make adequate progress toward a degree.
