Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is an early intervention training, designed to teach adults with no background in mental health how to recognize signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health or substance abuse problem. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan to help young people in crisis and non-crisis situations. YMHFA is best suited for adults who support youth aged 12-18.

YMHFA will equip adults with knowledge and skills to promote mental health education, recognize signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance abuse problem, listen nonjudgementally, give reassurance and help connect youth with behavioral health resources.

Audience: 6-8 Teachers, 9-12 Teachers, School Leaders, Specials Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Support Staff
