April 2023 Board of Trustees Update

On April 28, 2023, the GVSU Board of Trustees acted on a handful of items related to GVSU-authorized charter public schools.
First, the board approved the following school reauthorizations:
- Windemere Park Charter Academy (7 years)
- Washington-Parks Academy (5 years)
- Eagle's Nest Academy (3 years)
- Kalamazoo Covenant Academy (3 years)
The board also approved the authorization of GEE Compass Academy, a new statewide cyber option. The academy's initial contract will have a five-year term.
Finally, the Board approved the appointments and reappointments of 55 total charter school board members. The GVSU Charter Schools Office is thankful for the 41 board members who renewed their service to their community school, and is excited to welcome the following 14 individuals as new board members for GVSU-authorized charter schools:

- Cynthia Heraud -- GEE Compass Academy
- Nathan Mair -- GEE Compass Academy
- Hassan Albaheish -- Global Heights Academy
- Robert Brooks -- Hanley International Academy
- Michael Jury -- Saginaw Covenant Academy
- Constanza Hazelwood -- The Greenspire School
- Teshayla Coates -- Washington-Parks Academy
