Darlene Zwart, Director
Darlene serves as the Director of Student Services for the College of Health Professions. She received her bachelor’s degree from Calvin College in Sociology and Recreation, obtained her Therapeutic Recreation (TR) certification, and went on to get her master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education from Grand Valley State University (GVSU). Her career started in Toronto, ON where she worked as a YMCA program coordinator. She went on to get her TR certification while working outpatient pediatrics at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center. Her career path led her to 10 years of International Student Admissions at her Alma mater, Calvin College. In 2006, she started working in her current position within the College of Health Professions at GVSU. She declares that her claim to fame is bicycling 1900 miles across the USA. She continues to enjoy bicycling, travel to her relatives in the Netherlands, and trips back to her family in Canada.

Michelle Johnson, Senior Academic Advisor
Michelle has served as an academic advisor in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office since 2008. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services and graduated from GVSU in 2008 with a Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs Leadership. Her higher education career started at Kellogg Community College back in 2002.
Brianne Perez, Senior Academic Advisor
Brianne has served as an academic advisor in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office since 2011. She graduated from GVSU in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and in 2011 with a Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs Leadership. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Mike Saldana, Senior Academic Advisor
Mike serves as an academic advisor in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies and Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs Leadership from GVSU. After earning his Master’s Degree, he worked as an academic advisor at Illinois State University. He worked specifically with incoming freshman and undecided students. Upon returning to West Michigan, he fills most of his time watching sports related programs, being outdoors, and spending time with family.
Jennie Glynn, Academic Advisor
Jennie began as an Academic Advisor within the College of Health Professions in December 2016. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions with a minor in Aging & Adult Life from Grand Valley State University in 2012. While a student at GVSU, Jennie worked as a Student Assistant within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Academic Advising Center, where she formed a passion for higher education and academic advising. After graduating, she earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University in 2012. Prior to returning to GVSU, Jennie worked as an Admissions Counselor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. In her free time, she enjoys reading, practicing yoga, and spending time outdoors with her family. A West side native, she is excited to be back on campus, and proud to be a Laker for a Lifetime!
Valinda Stokes, Advising Program Assistant
Valinda is one of the professional support staff for the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. She also serves as the admissions coordinator for the College of Health Professions Graduate Programs. Many people know Valinda as an Apple products aficionado. In her free time, she spends time with her son and daughter, members of her congregation and her family.
Jodi Ohman, Office Coordinator
Jodi began as the Office Coordinator for the College of Health Professions Student Services Office in 2019. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Trinity Lutheran College, served as a Director of Residence Life in the Pacific NW, and home educated her children before joining the team at GVSU. Jodi and her family enjoy music, theater, and all things outdoors together.
Kesha, Graduate Assistant
Kesha works as a Graduate Assistant in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. She graduated from GVSU in April 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations with a minor in Hospitality Tourism Management. Kesha is pursuing her Master’s degree in Higher Education and will graduate May 2021. Kesha enjoys podcasting on her podcast “On The Cloud”, dancing, traveling, listening to music, and spending time with family and her Pitbull mix.
Shannah, Graduate Receptionist
Shannah works as a Graduate Student Receptionist in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. She graduated from GVSU December 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Allied Health Sciences and is now pursuing a Master's degree in Public Health. Shannah enjoys music including singing and learning to play ukulele, spending time with family and friends, and going on daily walks outdoors!
Kelsi, Graduate Receptionist
Kelsi works as a Graduate Student Receptionist in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. She graduated from Central Michigan University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and is now pursuing a clinical Doctorate in Audiology. Kelsi enjoys watching movies, cooking, shopping at TJ Maxx, and spending time with friends.
