There is an urgent need to develop just, equitable, and sustainable solutions for the global climate crisis to protect the present and future generations. Global climate change is already negatively affecting and is expected to have more dramatic effects on the livelihoods and well-being of communities around the world. There is also an urgent need to adapt to climate change impacts  that can’t now be prevented and to prepare for inevitable risks. The need for robust adaptation strategies to alleviate human vulnerability must be balanced and coordinated with climate change mitigation and sustainable development priorities. Global Climate Change Week (GCCW) aims to encourage academic communities – including faculty, students, and professional staff at universities and their local municipalities – to contribute more to ensuring that these needs are met.
