Management - Program Description

The management program provides students with a balance of technical and interpersonal skills required to be effective managers and to lead others in a world of constant change and intense competition. This program offers three majors and an emphasis.
General Management
This major is recommended if you are interested in more diverse areas of management. It allows for combining interests in areas such as human resource management, management information systems and operations management by selecting from a range of courses.
Human Resource Management
This major emphasizes the management of the relationship between an organization and its employees. Business, nonprofit, government, and union organizations all need specialists who are trained to respond to employee concerns, administer labor and employment laws, and design policies dealing with diversity and equal opportunity, recruiting and selection, training, performance appraisal, compensation, benefits, discipline, and labor negotiations. Curriculum is focused on organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Operations Management
This major is designed to prepare you in the technical and strategic aspects of producing goods and services. Operations management involves the application of managerial, quantitative, and computer skills to areas of lean, six-sigma, ERP, inventory management, forecasting and scheduling, with the goal of giving students the tools to effectively manage service and manufacturing operations. SAP, the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, is integrated into the majority of the operations management courses.
Management Information Systems
The management information systems emphasis provides a combination of technical and managerial skills that prepare you to interpret end-user business needs and translate them into effective technology based solutions. Information Systems (IS) are the backbone of most business organizations. An emphasis in MIS deals with the application of technology to support the operational activities of an organization and the information necessary to execute those activities. Our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Initiative uses the world's leading ERP software to expose you to real-world business processes, problems and solutions. People who understand the organization's business processes, as well as the technical environment are in great demand.
