Daryn Baker, AT, ATC: Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Instructor
Daryn Baker is the instructor for the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Course offered by the Wilson Talent Center. His journey to The Wilson Talent Center began in 6th grade when a visionary English teacher encouraged him to explore the newly developing field of Sports Medicine from his expressed interest in First Aid and his passion for sports. That suggestion eventually led to a Bachelors Degree in Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University in 1993. Upon graduation, he spent a short time with a professional minor league hockey team followed by 21 years at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso serving in multiple roles such as Community Outreach Athletic Trainer at Laingsburg High School, 13 years as the Senior Athletic Trainer at the out-patient clinic, and another 8 years heading the Health & Wellness program. In 2017, a desire to return to working with high school students, an interest in sharing his long-standing passion for Athletic Training/Sports Medicine, and varied healthcare experiences led to an Instructor position at The Wilson Talent Center. The unique and exciting challenge of developing a new Career and Technical Education offering for Ingham Intermediate School District's Wilson Talent Center resulted in their first Therapeutic Services/Sports Medicine class beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. His goal is to share his enthusiasm for Athletic Training and prepare students to become high-quality healthcare coworkers that he would be proud to work alongside and that he would want caring for him someday.
