Class Announcement - ANT 431: Fraudulent Archaeology

In this class, we will examine Pseudoarchaeology. We will explore why these ideas emerge and take root in public consciousness. In addition we will take apart these ideas piece by piece, highlighting the problems in the so-called “evidence” used to support outrageous claims. While many of the ideas we will explore range from the bizarre to the ridiculous, the critical evaluation and debunking of these ideas is a serious subject. The underlying goal of this class is not only to deconstruct archaeological hoaxes and pseudo mysteries, but to explore how we can truly understand the past through science and rational inquiry.
