Grand Valley's combined degree program in Applied Food and Nutrition (B.S.) and Clinical Dietetics (M.S.) offers students a unique opportunity to earn both degrees in an accelerated timeframe. This hybrid program is designed for qualified undergraduates who can meet specific academic criteria.
Students enrolled in this program will study a variety of topics essential to the fields of food and nutrition and clinical dietetics. The curriculum covers fundamental and advanced concepts in nutritional assessment, dietetic management, and patient care, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for their future careers. This holistic approach prepares students to address diverse nutritional needs and challenges in various healthcare settings.
This combined program provides hands-on learning experiences in state-of-the-art facilities, including simulation labs and nutritional assessment laboratories. Graduates are well-prepared to meet the growing national demand for master's-trained professionals in clinical nutrition, which can significantly enhance their career prospects and earning potential. Additionally, the program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, ensuring a high standard of education and professional recognition. Graduates of the combined degree program will meet eligibility requirements to test for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential.
Students can apply to the AFN and CD combined degree program at the end of the fall semester during their third academic year. Applications and interviews occur after January 15 for admission the following fall. Students accepted into the combined degree program will start the fall semester taking AFN and CD courses and will be full-time graduate students by the spring/summer semester.

Qualified undergraduates may be admitted to the program and obtain both the B.S. in applied food and nutrition (AFN) and M.S. in clinical dietetics within an accelerated time frame.
Students interested in the combined degree program will follow the undergraduate coursework for AFN. Application requirements include:
Graduates work at hospitals, medical centers, long-term care facilities, dialysis clinics, rehabilitation centers, WIC programs, community nutrition organizations, school nutrition services, and private practices.
