Clinical dietetics is a systematic approach to treating medical conditions, complex disease processes and their associated symptoms through medical nutrition therapy (MNT). The registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) uses and applies advanced nutrition knowledge, MNT, and the nutrition care process to promote health and prevent disease.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are nutrition experts who provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT), apply the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), perform nutrition-focused physical exams, and manage enteral nutrition to address complex nutrition-related conditions. They deliver counseling and education while working across clinical, community, food service, management, and research settings to ensure safe, effective, evidencebased nutrition care. RDNs also lead and evaluate nutrition programs, supervise food service operations, and contribute to clinical or applied nutrition research.

Application Deadline
Application deadline is January 15 for fall admission or until all seats are filled. Visit gvsu.edu/grad/clinicaldiet and select Admissions Requirements for details. The $30 nonrefundable application fee is waived if the applicant has previously applied to GVSU.
The College of Health Professions (CHP) Student Services Office (SSO) is a key resource for academic advising services and admissions to the School of Interdisciplinary Health's (SIH) programs and majors. Prospective SIH graduate program students can receive services and support from the CHP Student Services office. Undergraduate students interested in pursuing a Combined Degree option should meet with a CHPSSO academic advisor early and frequently. They will work with you to develop an achievable academic plan, provide assistance with parallel planning, clarify university policies that pertain to and support degree completion, and help you navigate the graduate program application process.
Qualified students in GVSU's Applied Food & Nutrition (AFN) Bachelor of Science program can apply to the AFN & Clinical Dietetics Combined Degree Program to earn a Master of Science in Clinical Dietetics.
