Artificial intelligence is the field of computer science focused on creating systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving.
Grand Valley's certificate in Artificial Intelligence Foundations introduces students to artificial intelligence with a focus on the foundational knowledge needed to approach AI tools.
Courses cover an overview of the AI field, application of generative AI tools, issues in AI ethics and bias, as well as integrating trustworthy AI practices. Students gain a practical understanding of how to choose the correct algorithm for a problem, evaluation of AI-generated results, and experience with commonly available AI tools. Critically, emphasis is also placed on the underlying mechanics and potential biases that might influence AI outputs.
Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply for the certificate as they will learn how to apply AI in their chosen career. The certificate addresses industry needs by preparing graduates to be immediately impactful with AI skills that complement their roles.
