Grand Valley criminal justice students focus on crime and violent behavior from viewpoints grounded in the traditional humanities and the social sciences. Although they are schooled in the practical knowledge and skills they will need in the profession, students also receive thorough preparation in the arts and sciences.

GVSU criminal justice students focus on the criminal justice system (police, courts, corrections) as well as crime, its victims and responses to crime and violent behavior. Course curriculum is grounded in the traditional humanities and the social sciences, and includes a theoretical analysis of criminal behavior. Although they are schooled in the practical knowledge and skills they will need in the profession, students also receive thorough preparation in the arts and sciences.

Juvenile Justice minor

The juvenile justice minor is designed to promote an awareness and understanding of the issues related to juvenile justice. Topics range from the causes of juvenile delinquency including youth culture, to juvenile justice system responses from the point of custody to adjudication, and juvenile correctional philosophies and practices.
