We hope you will be able to attend their presentations. You will have the opportunity to provide your feedback to the search committee after the presentation.

Wednesday, January 18, 1:00-1:45, PAD 308

Thursday, January 19, 10:30-11:15, PAD 308

Friday, January 20, 1:15-2:00, PAD 308

2. CLAS Voyage

Highlights:

The CLAS Voyage Team is pleased that as part of the FTLC’s Student Success Series, Dr. Jillian Kenzie will be visiting GVSU on 1/18 to discuss the results of the National Survey of Student Engagement. This survey provides key insight into institutional engagement and was a key origin in the development of our framework for high-impact practices. Dr. Kenzie will be providing an in-depth look at GVSU’s data on the NSSE from 9-11 on the Pew Campus, in Loosemore Auditorium. We anticipate using NSSE data as part of our assessment plan for HIPs and student engagement.

Updates:

As a reminder, this semester the CLAS Voyage team will be focused on an in-depth exploration of the current state of HIPs in CLAS and identifying areas of success and growth. We plan to detail implementation and scaling plans and identify grants and other funding sources that can create sustainability around this work. As you find interest or have questions, we welcome feedback, thoughts, and questions.

Action Items:

We are pleased to release the application for pilot student learning communities or Embarking Experiences. As part of the strategic planning, CCEL has budgeted to pay for the development of multiple modalities of and innovative courses aligned with our frameworks for high-impact practices. Please follow this link for applications for the Voyage Summer 2023 Pilot Development, due February 2nd. Courses could be delivered in Fall 2023 or Winter 2024.

5. Resource Information for First Year Courses

As we head into a new semester, the CLAS Student Success Team has created two new resources for faculty to share with students, especially in first year classes. We are requesting that you share this information with your students during the first two weeks of classes, either by running the Academic Support video or the Academic Support slideshow at the start of your classes.

There are additional resources for faculty to share, as appropriate, housed on the Tutoring and Reading Center website. If you would like a representative from the Center to visit your classes, please contact them via their online request form.

If you have additional resource needs, please contact AD Schaner ([email protected]) for assistance. Thank you for your help as we work together to support all students.

6. Registration Reminders

Students have through Friday, January 13 by 5:00 p.m. to make changes to their Winter 2023 schedules without penalty. Please keep this in mind as you see new faces in your classes throughout the week. These students may need some assistance in catching up on the work missed during the first few days of classes. Please accommodate them throughout the week.

After the first week of classes, student who wish to make changes to their schedules will need to follow the Late Add Process. There will likely be late fees and/or tuition impacts as students continue to change their schedules. There may be some allowances for section switches or shifts to lower-level courses as students determine their preparedness for specific classes. If you have questions about this process, please contact AD Schaner ([email protected]).

Students who are adding late start classes will not need to go through the Late Add Process if the course hasn’t yet started.
